Projects.
BONNET HILL
Renovation encapsulating dining, lounge, kitchen, laundry and deck. We worked with our Engineer to develop a cost effective solution for a major structural alteration to create flow within a new open plan. Utilising the existing footprint with a small extension we were able to create a dynamic space that used the same language as the existing.
NEWTOWN
Bathroom renovation. Rectification of solid render walls over brick to allow for maximum room size. Together with the architect we developed a way to orientate the bath along the window while protecting the existing window frame and architrave by designing a hinged glass screen that is visually separate to the window allowing the existing features to remain dominant.
SANDY BAY
Wall, window and door configuration changes, entry/deck and driveway. Rather than demolish an existing small concrete deck it was utilised as a platform for construction of an elevated outdoor area which doubles as a front entry and carport. This feature together with the flow changes within the footprint anchors the home and elevates its aesthetic, functionality and street appeal.
CREMORNE
Install of Hot tub, shower and outdoor area. We created a space on an elevation that was under-utilised, delivering on the earthy, dynamic and harmonious brief. We used the circular shape of the tub to dissect a corner of the home to create an appealing foreground for the incredible view from the primary living areas.
BEDROOM FIT-OUT
Design and build a queen size bed using recycled timber from a local winery. The design reflects the timbers previous use and maintains its rustic form.

This project was an architectural designed renovation 1950’s heritage precinct house. We completed major configuration changes including the removal of the fireplace and 3 walls. Installation of double-glazed windows including a new kitchen and bathroom.
WEST HOBART
An intricate Architechtural extension by Liz Walsh at Cumulus Inc incorporating burnished concrete slab and upstands into a series of oversized timber glazed sections with a WC inside a brick chimney.
Capabilities.
Interior design, fitouts & renovations.
Creating a new feel for existing areas through design of built features like mantles and french doors. Considered design focusing on potential and possibilities. Avalon Design and Build have a focus on timber restoration and modifying internal layouts including bathrooms to kitchens and window layout to create relaxing spaces and emphasise natural light.
Extensions.
Extensions to create an inspirational and relaxing environment. This is achieved by developing the design with the client and a series of 3D models outlining layout and style of a proposed construction.
Project Management.
Avalon Design and Build utilises Michael Mills’ background in managing major Engineering projects throughout Australia to develop an individual process suited to each renovation. Every project is different from the living arrangements during constriction to the development build segments to suit the clients needs as it progresses. Our system includes programming with contingencies and uses our strong relationships with our partners to ensure our clients communication and deliverables are achieved.
Outdoor spaces.
Design and build outdoor spaces where we use pergolas and patios to achieve a relaxing and functional environment.
Furniture design
and construction.
Contemporary furniture with pieces ranging from a Huon pine book shelf to an oak queen size bed. We love using recycled Tasmanian specialty timbers and customising the build to suit the space and compliment the feel of a space.
